The most coordinated fashion moment of the night was not planned by a stylist but by loyalty. Hailey Bieber, Zoe Kravitz and Rose arrived in gold Saint Laurent from Anthony Vaccarello's final collection for the house, then took the stage together to present him with the International Designer of the Year award.

Bieber wore a long-sleeved gold brocade midi dress with fur-trimmed cuffs, Kravitz a liquid-gold midi with a croc texture and cutouts, and Rose a cropped gold top with a matching brocade skirt and thigh-high slit. Anja Rubik completed the quartet in gold foil with a sporty lame jacket. After a decade at Saint Laurent, Vaccarello's farewell collection turned out to be the night's dress code.

The takeaway for party season is simple: gold does not need a gown. Brocade, lame and metallic textures do the work in midi lengths and separates, and they photograph like a celebration even before the flash goes off.

There was a pleasing symmetry to Monday night at the American Museum of Natural History. The man who has dressed American ambition for nearly six decades was named American Menswear Designer of the Year, beating Public School New York, Thom Browne, Todd Snyder and Willy Chavarria.

Matt Damon and Denim Tears founder Tremaine Emory presented the award to Lauren, 87, who received a standing ovation. It was a reminder that in a season full of reinvention, the most radical thing on offer can be continuity done beautifully.

The carpet told the same story in miniature. Shaboozey wore Ralph Lauren, Matt Damon wore Ralph Lauren, and the room's loudest looks still bowed to tailoring. Classicism is not playing defence this season. It is setting the terms.

Wes Gordon may have been nominated for Womenswear Designer of the Year, but his house won the red carpet anyway. Becky G, Rose Byrne, Jeannie Mai and Pamela Anderson all wore Carolina Herrera, and the dots did the talking.

Becky G chose a periwinkle and black polka dot dress from the Spring/Summer 2027 collection with silver Rene Caovilla platform sandals, while Rose Byrne went strapless and drop-waisted in the same collection. The pattern also ran through Gordon's Spring 2027 runway in black and white and in black with Cielo blue.

Dots work right now because they are graphic without being loud. They read as festive from across a room and classic up close, which is exactly the balance holiday dressing asks for.

November is Jordan Brand's month, but the week's most interesting drop might be the quietest one. The New Balance Made in USA 990v7 arrives November 6 in Kool Grey, the seventh generation of a franchise that has been refining the same idea since 1982.

New Balance calls the design philosophy memories from the future: familiar pigskin suede and mesh, a sleeker upper, a larger N logo, and a softer FuelCell midsole. The campaign slogan is disarmingly direct. Dad's back, and nobody is apologising for it.

Then comes Saturday. The Air Jordan 6 White Infrared returns November 7 with Nike Air back on the heel for the first time since the 1991 original, white leather against black and infrared hits. It is a general release, but the week's calendar says to be ready at 10 a.m. Eastern all the same.

The night's best story was also its oldest. Host Keke Palmer opened the evening in a vintage gold Bob Mackie gown first worn by Raquel Welch in a 1975 performance with Cher, sourced from Los Angeles boutique Timeless Vixen.

She was not alone in looking back. Ashtin Earle wore a Roberto Cavalli dress from Fall/Winter 2005, Adriana Lima wore archival Donna Karan, and Julia Fox wore archival Miss Claire Sullivan. Nostalgia dressing has been building all year, and the CFDA carpet made it the establishment position rather than the alternative one.

The shopping lesson is not to chase a museum piece but to buy the codes: metallic shine, strong shoulders, a silhouette with a date stamp. Vintage-inspired pieces with a clear era reference will read as intentional rather than costume.

If the runways settled one argument this season, it is the coat. Across New York, London, Milan and Paris, designers lengthened outerwear, broadened shoulders and let the coat carry the look, from Saint Laurent's sweeping wool overcoats to Burberry's sharpened trenches.

The street version is simpler: one great coat, everything else quiet. A long raglan overcoat balances wide trousers and chunky shoes in a way a cropped jacket never will, and texture does the talking where print used to.

Buy into it at the level that suits you. A suede jacket with a corduroy collar, a Spanish merino crewneck for layering, a proper wool watch cap: winter dressing rewards the pieces you reach for every cold morning, not the ones that photograph once.

Demi Moore made the most unexpected case of the night: all-over denim, at black tie. Her custom GapStudio halter-neck gown by Zac Posen was built from the construction language of Gap jeans, with layered waistbands, a front slit and a train.

Lupita Nyong'o doubled down on the same idea in custom GapStudio: a red cropped top with a gathered front, a floor-length column skirt and a light-wash denim jacket carried in hand, finished with Tiffany & Co. Elsa Peretti earrings and bone cuffs. Moore later presented Gap Inc. with the Innovation Award, recalling her 1990 Gap denim jacket campaign.

Denim eveningwear works because it breaks the formality contract just enough. The fabric keeps it grounded while the silhouette stays formal, and that tension is what made both looks land.

Emporio Armani's Holiday 2026 collection has landed at Bloomingdale's, and its pitch is quietly persuasive: structured blazers and sweeping coats in rich cold-weather fabrics, designed by Silvana Armani and Leo Dell'Orco to be worn together or broken apart into the wardrobe you already own.

The mood is British formality filtered through Italian expression, inspired by a music school. It pairs naturally with the week's other holiday arrival, H&M Holiday 2026, which lands November 5 with Jazz Age Paris as its muse: belted wool coats, shearling and leather jackets, double-breasted suits.

The shared lesson is to buy the coat first and let the party follow. A great outer layer gets you to the dinner and home again, which is the only dress code winter really enforces.

The carpet was the party, but the calendar is the shopping list. Skims' Holiday Shop, fronted by a retro campaign with Kim Kardashian and her sisters, is already live with festive prints, cozy sets and an accessories advent calendar.

H&M's Holiday 2026 collection lands November 5 with a Jazz Age Paris theme in inky black, bronze, gold and ivory. Kith Women Winter 2026 follows on November 6 with statement outerwear, holiday occasionwear, the new Katarina handbag and a Stan Smith Ballet in wrapped suede with adidas Originals.

The common thread is occasion dressing that still works on a normal day: pieces built for dinners, housewarmings and long city days rather than single-use party outfits. Buy the set, the robe or the bag now; the sellout risk on holiday drops is real.
