Opulence Goes Daytime: Chocolate, Corsets & Diva Puffers

Daisy Edgar-Jones is having the press-tour week of the season. At The Grove she paired a white Mango jacquard stand-collar jacket ($270) with distressed straight-leg jeans, pointed white pumps and a black chain-strap bag — polish worn over denim, the formula of the week. On October 16 she took it further on The Drew Barrymore Show, appearing in a John Galliano Spring 2006 pink bow-embellished embroidered corset jacket: archival fashion on daytime television.

The move has a name now. PureWow's October 14 coverage dubbed her Sense and Sensibility press-tour aesthetic the "Austen Siren" — embellished corsets, flowy skirts, satin and military jackets, all styled by Dani Michelle. Emma Stone is running the same play in a longer gray jacquard iteration, worn with jeans, a Louis Vuitton bag and Khaite sandals.

The runways got there first. The Fall/Winter 2026 collections pushed brocade, jacquard, tapestry and embroidered jackets as the season's opulence story — decorative dressing as daywear rather than occasionwear. Edgar-Jones just made it the most visible version of the week.

Chocolate brown keeps tightening its grip as the season's neutral. Highsnobiety reported on October 16 that adidas released a dark brown take on the Italia 60s — truffle-like leather uppers, available on adidas Germany for EUR 120 (about $134) — turning one of the year's defining sneaker silhouettes the color of the season.

Denim is going the same way. Who What Wear's editors flagged chocolate-brown jeans on Gigi Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski this week, naming Citizens of Humanity's Taper Jeans as the favorite pair. And Song for the Mute's October 16 rework of the adidas Samba OG — black leather, creamy Three Stripes, a slightly collapsed heel — leans into the worn-in, lived-in register the whole brown story sits in.

Footwear editors agree on the direction: cognac, chestnut and caramel browns are displacing black as the default fall color. The brownout isn't a colorway anymore; it's the wardrobe baseline.

If brown is the color, texture is the conversation. Harper's Bazaar's FW26 boot report puts cognac and chestnut at the center of the season — Dior's chestnut harness boots, tonal brown styling at Gabriela Hearst, Ralph Lauren and Max Mara — the shade worn head to toe rather than as an accent.

The finishes are getting bolder. Snakeskin is everywhere — Isabel Marant, Ulla Johnson, Dries Van Noten — while croc embossing climbs knee-highs at Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Magda Butrym and Lanvin. Riding boots are back in minimalist form: tall shafts, low heels, almost no embellishment, at Hermès, Proenza Schouler, Tory Burch and Miu Miu.

Rounding out the picture: slouchy suede shafts and refined western boots. The through-line is touch — this fall's boot is something you can read with your hands.

Yesterday's shawl story has a sharper sequel. Who What Wear's editors named the Almina Concept Long Triangle Scarf a key styling piece for fall 2026 on October 13 — the pashmina's geometry tightened into a triangle, worn at the neck, over the hair, or wrapped onto a handbag.

Milan's fall street style backs it: the silk scarf is back in rotation, and the triangle is its most deliberate form. Same layering logic as the pashmina moment, but the silhouette does the talking.

It's a small accessory with an outsized effect — the cheapest way into the season's romantic dressing, and the one that photographs best.

Moncler keeps feeding the puffer story. The 2026 Re/Icons campaign, covered by Highsnobiety on October 16, casts Cher, Grace Jones and JENNIE — shot by Gabriel Moses and inspired by alpine pioneer Lionel Terray — three generations of icons against the brand's mountaineering archive.

Cher wears the 2009-era Himalaya and the '80s-era Verone with a bold yellow scarf that references her Bob Mackie Cher Show dress; Grace Jones takes the 1954 Karakorum in deep purple, a break from Moncler's usual muted alpine palette that makes the campaign's signature image.

The ambitions are bigger than a campaign: Re/Icons has expanded into its first ready-to-wear collection, with a physical lookbook and a feature film directed by Daniele Vicari announced. The puffer's second act now comes with a full wardrobe.
