Long coats and wax jackets
4/5The Power Coat Goes Chocolate (and Waxed)
In the dataChocolate brown
After seasons of cropped jackets, the long, considered coat is back as the anchor of a look: strong shoulders, knee-length lines and room to layer underneath. The colour story has shifted with it. Deep chocolate and tobacco browns now do the work black used to do, and they look better across wool, suede and waxed cotton than any single flat shade.
Wax is the other half of the story. Heritage jackets that age, scuff and patina rather than staying pristine are being styled over knitwear and denim, not kept for the countryside. The practical buy is not the most expensive coat in the wardrobe; it is the weatherproof layer you will actually reach for on wet, changeable days.
Barbour's Transport jacket, in a Todd Snyder exclusive dark brown waxed cotton with a removable hood and tartan lining, is the accessible version of the idea. Patta and Carhartt WIP's Hartt and Soul capsule, which dropped October 24, makes the same case from the streetwear side: heavily washed chore coats and double-knee work pants, built to be worn hard.
- Waxed cotton develops a patina; buy it to wear, not to keep pristine.
- Chocolate pairs with olive, raw denim and cream knitwear.
A short, A-line waxed-cotton jacket with removable hood and tartan lining, the accessible take on the wax-jacket story.
