The Belt Is Back
In the dataBelt
The street-style photographers have filed their verdict on the spring 2027 season, and the silhouette story is unmistakable: waists are cinched again. Vogue's roundup of the trends outside the four fashion capitals names the Celine Maison belt as the new waist-cincher of choice, officially dethroning the Gucci Marmont that ruled the sidewalks for years.
It is not just one belt. Cummerbunds are being worn day-for-night, drawstring pouches were the bag of the season, and feather floral brooches from Matthieu Blazy's Chanel debut were the accessory moment. Most commercially interesting for fall: the almost-skinny, straight-leg jean is back after years of baggy dominance, with peplum returning alongside it.
The buy side agrees. Vogue Business's Spring/Summer 2027 Global Buyer Report — 440 shows, buyers from Bergdorf Goodman to Le Bon Marché — calls out cinched waists via statement belts and cummerbunds as a commercial bet, alongside the knee-length skirt and lingerie-as-daywear. When the sidewalks and the spreadsheets align, it is not a blip.
